COMPOSITION
Each film-coated tablet contains:
Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate IP 300 mg
Colors: Indigo Carmine & Titanium Dioxide.

Viread and Vemlidy are brand names for tenofovir oral tablet, which is also available as a generic.

USES
Infection with HIV, in combination with other antiretroviral medicines. This medication does not completely kill the virus, but it does help to manage it.
Infection with the hepatitis B virus that continues for a long time.
How it works
Tenofovir belongs to the nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors class of drugs (NRTIs). It’s also a reverse transcriptase inhibitor for the hepatitis B virus (RTI). A drug class is a category of medicines that all function in the same way. These medications are commonly used to treat disorders that are identical to each other.
Tenofovir treats both HIV infection and chronic hepatitis B virus infections in the same way. It interferes with the ability of reverse transcriptase, an enzyme necessary for each virus to replicate itself. The virus can be reduced in your blood by blocking reverse transcriptase.
Tenofovir can also boost the number of CD4 cells in the body. CD4 cells are anti-infectious white blood cells.

While tenofovir oral tablet does not cause drowsiness, it can have other negative effects.
More common side effects
The more common side effects are:
depression
pain
back pain
diarrhea
headache
trouble sleeping
nausea or vomiting
rash
If the side effects are minor, they can go away in a matter of days or weeks. Talk to the doctor or pharmacist if they get more serious or don’t go away.
Serious side effects
If you encounter any significant side effects, call your doctor immediately. If your symptoms are life-threatening or you assume you are having a medical emergency, dial 911. The following are examples of serious side effects and their symptoms:
Lactic acidosis. Symptoms can include:

stomach pain with nausea and vomiting
irregular or rapid heartbeat
dizziness
trouble breathing
feelings of coldness in the legs or arms
Liver enlargement. Symptoms can include:
dark urine
abdominal pain or discomfort
fatigue
yellowing skin
nausea
Hepatitis B virus infection is worsening. Among the signs and symptoms are:

dark urine
fever
nausea
weakness
yellowing of the skin and the whites of your eyes (jaundice)
Decreased bone mineral density
